LillyDirect UK: What It Is, How It Works, and What It Means for Mounjaro Patients
LillyDirect is Eli Lilly’s official dispensing and delivery service, and in 2026 it arrived in the UK. If you take Mounjaro — or you’re researching it — you’ve probably started seeing the name and wondered what it actually is, how it works, and whether it’s safe. We’ve put together this guide to answer everything our patients (and future patients) are asking us.
What is LillyDirect UK?
LillyDirect is a dispensing and delivery service run by Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro (tirzepatide) — the medication we prescribe for many of our weight loss patients. It launched in the United States first, and expanded to the UK in June 2026.
Here’s the crucial part: in the UK, LillyDirect does not prescribe medication and does not sell medicines to the public. UK law prohibits a manufacturer from selling prescription-only medicines directly to patients. Instead, LillyDirect works behind the scenes: a UK-registered prescriber — like ours at DoToR — assesses you and issues a private prescription, and LillyDirect’s pharmacy partners then dispense your medication from Lilly’s own supply chain and deliver it to your home.
In other words, LillyDirect changes where your medication is dispensed from and how it reaches you — not who assesses you, prescribes for you, or looks after your treatment. That stays with us.
How does LillyDirect work in the UK?
- You’re assessed by the DoToR clinical team – our registered prescribers review your health, suitability and medical history through your online consultation, exactly as they do today. Lilly plays no part in deciding whether Mounjaro is right for you.
- Your DoToR prescriber issues your private prescription – the prescribing decision always sits with our clinical team, not with Lilly.
- We send your prescription securely to a LillyDirect dispensing partner – electronically, straight to one of Lilly’s established, GPhC-registered pharmacy partners.
- Your medication is dispensed from Lilly’s own supply chain – genuine, UK-licensed stock, controlled by the manufacturer from factory to dispatch.
- It’s delivered to your door – in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging with real-time tracking.
What’s included in a LillyDirect delivery?
Deliveries are designed so you have everything you need to inject safely:
Kept at 2–8°C throughout transit
Included with every delivery
Included with every delivery
Included with your first delivery, for safe needle disposal
Delivery is secure as well as discreet: you receive a code by text message and show it to the courier to take delivery, so your medication is only ever handed to you. That means someone does need to be home — these parcels won’t fit through a letterbox, and the cold-chain packaging means you should refrigerate your pen as soon as it arrives. (If you want to nerd out on cold-chain delivery, we’ve written about how insulated pharmaceutical packaging keeps medication at 2–8°C for up to 72 hours.)
Which medicines are available through LillyDirect UK?
At launch, the only medicine available through LillyDirect in the UK is Mounjaro (tirzepatide), which is licensed by the MHRA for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management. Lilly has said other medicines may follow.
One common point of confusion we hear from patients: “Zepbound” is the US brand name for the tirzepatide injection — the same medicine as Mounjaro. It is not licensed or sold in the UK, where the licensed brand is Mounjaro. Any website offering Zepbound to UK patients is a red flag.
What about the new weight loss tablet?
You may also have seen headlines about Lilly’s new once-daily weight loss pill, orforglipron (sold in the US under the brand name Foundayo, approved there in 2026). It’s the first GLP-1 tablet for weight management — no injection, and no food or water restrictions.
It is not yet available in the UK. Lilly is expected to bring it to the UK later in 2026, and as with Mounjaro, it will be prescription-only when it arrives. Until then, the same red-flag rule applies: any website claiming to sell Lilly’s weight loss pill in the UK today is not selling you the genuine, licensed medicine. (Don’t confuse it with Novo Nordisk’s oral semaglutide tablet, which is a separate, licensed medicine — always check exactly which product you’re being offered.) We’ll update our patients as soon as there’s confirmed UK news.
Why does LillyDirect matter? The counterfeit problem
The huge demand for GLP-1 weight loss medication has created a market for counterfeit and diverted products, sold through unregulated websites and social media. Fake “skinny jabs” have been found containing the wrong drug, the wrong dose, or nothing at all — and they’ve put people in hospital. As pharmacists, this is something we feel strongly about.
LillyDirect is Lilly’s answer to that problem. When your medication is dispensed directly from the manufacturer’s own supply chain, under the manufacturer’s regulatory control, there is simply no gap in the chain where a counterfeit product could enter. For our patients, that’s the headline benefit: certainty that what’s in your fridge is exactly what your prescriber intended.
Already ordering from us? Then you’re already receiving genuine, UK-licensed stock with proper cold-chain delivery — LillyDirect doesn’t change that. What it adds is an extra layer of reassurance: the manufacturer itself now oversees the journey from factory to front door.
Is LillyDirect safe and regulated?
Yes — every part of the journey, including our part, is covered by an existing UK regulator:
- MHRA licenses the medicine and monitors its safety (you can report side effects via the Yellow Card scheme)
- GMC / GPhC regulate prescribers — including our own clinical team
- GPhC (or PSNI in Northern Ireland) regulates the pharmacies that dispense
- CQC regulates online healthcare providers in England
Wherever you get weight loss medication, our advice is always the same: make sure a real, registered prescriber has assessed you; check the pharmacy’s GPhC registration; tell your GP about any medicine you start privately; and never buy GLP-1 medication from social media or unregulated websites. And whoever dispenses your pen, side effects work the same way — our guides on what to expect from GLP-1 side effects and what to do if you experience them apply regardless.
LillyDirect and DoToR
In August 2026, Lilly extended LillyDirect eligibility to UK pharmacies running regulated private weight management services — and we’re preparing to offer LillyDirect dispensing and delivery to our Mounjaro patients. Your assessment, prescription and clinical support will stay exactly where they are today, with our team; the dispensing and delivery of your pen will come direct from Lilly’s supply chain. We’ll share full details with our patients soon.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy Mounjaro directly from Lilly in the UK?
No. UK law doesn’t allow manufacturers to sell prescription-only medicines to the public. You always need a private prescription from a registered prescriber first — LillyDirect only handles dispensing and delivery after that.
Does LillyDirect replace DoToR?
No. We still assess you, prescribe, and manage your treatment and dose changes. LillyDirect is the logistics behind the scenes.
Is LillyDirect part of the NHS?
No — it’s a private service for privately prescribed medication. NHS access to Mounjaro runs through separate NHS pathways.
Is medication from LillyDirect different from what we dispense today?
No — as a regulated UK pharmacy we already dispense the same genuine, UK-licensed Mounjaro. The difference is the supply route: LillyDirect stock comes directly from the manufacturer’s own chain, with no intermediate wholesale steps.
How is the medication kept cold in transit?
Mounjaro is shipped in insulated, temperature-controlled packaging designed to hold 2–8°C throughout the journey, with tracked delivery so you can be there when it arrives. Refrigerate your pen as soon as you receive it.
Can I get the weight loss tablet (orforglipron) in the UK?
Not yet. Lilly’s once-daily GLP-1 tablet is approved in the US (as Foundayo) but isn’t licensed in the UK — it’s expected to arrive later in 2026, and anyone selling Lilly’s pill here before then is a red flag. Novo Nordisk’s oral semaglutide tablet is a different, licensed medicine, so always check which product you’re actually being offered. We’ll update this page when there’s confirmed UK news.
When will LillyDirect be available through DoToR?
Soon — we’re onboarding now. Keep an eye on our blog and your email for the announcement.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine licensed for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management. Always read the patient information leaflet, report suspected side effects via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, and keep your GP informed about any medicine you start privately.
